Beauty Guide: Foundation

Foundation Guide
As the weather changes, so does our skin. The skincare routine you have in the summer might be different from your winter routine based on your skin type and weather conditions. For those of you wondering….. the same applies for your foundation. Living in the midwest, it is unlikely that you use the same foundation formula or color from the summer to winter months. Unfortunately, being a Chicago girl, I need a foundation with extra moisture packed inside and drop down about 2-3 shades from November to March.

So whether you are in search of the ‘perfect’ foundation or just trying to change things up a bit, this is your go-to guide for foundation! I have searched in and out of Nordstrom, Sephora and other beauty stores to find you foundations in the following categories: light-weight, long-lasting, buildable coverage, and full coverage.

Here are some of my favorites…

Light-Weight: NARS Tinted Moisturizer is a great “barely there” option for someone who wants a light-weight/no-makeup feel for their skin. Plus, the SPF 30 in this tinted moisturizer is one of the highest I’ve seen on the market – great for summer!

Bobbi Brown Long-Wear Even Finish Foundation  is one of my favorite options for a true long-wear, “from coffee to cocktails” foundation. This product is oil-free and provides medium to full coverage. Glycerin and shea butter keep the skin feeling moisturized while the gel base creates a lightweight finish.

Buildable Coverage:
Giorgio Armani Luminous Silk Foundation is great for buildable coverage and for achieving that J.LO glow we’ve all wanted since “Jenny From The Block.” This foundation truly is great for all skin types and has won tons of beauty awards!

Full Coverage: Amazonian Clay 12-Hour Full Coverage Foundation hides every pore, discoloration and imperfection that your skin may have! The great part about this foundation is that you don’t feel or look like you’re wearing a heavy mask.

Tip: Foundations should always blend into your skin! The best application practice is to start where your skin needs it and then with light strokes blend downward and out. MAKE SURE YOU DON’T HAVE A LINE/STREAK AT YOUR JAWLINE – I know you’ve seen what I’m talking about.

PS: don’t be afraid to ask for a sample! Department stores like Nordstrom LOVE LOVE LOVE sampling products. Try before you buy ladies!
