Wednesday’s Wish List

As I was deciding which items would make my wish list for today’s post, I realized everything I chose screamed spring/summer (all bronze everything). I mean can you blame me? Chicago has had one of the longest winters to date…so with the temperatures looking up-ish for the rest of the week – it’s only fair to dedicate this post to the months ahead!

In the meantime, you can find me also wishing I was here. What’s on your wish list this month?

Here’s to a beautiful spring + summer!

(18) What’s in HER bag?

For this installment of “What’s in HER bag,” I’m featuring one pretty amazing chick, Natalie Jalouga. In addition to making women feel and look beautiful at Bloomingdale’s Michigan Avenue, Natalie (CEO of Fashion for a Cure), created a non profit event to raise funds for Leukemia & Lymphoma Society in memory of her mother. In 2013, Natalie campaigned for LLS’s Woman of the Year amongst a select group of candidates in the Chicagoland area.

885664_4625886722412_1129927324_oBelow, Natalie dishes on her three key beauty items and the secret product that has changed her life (seriously though).

Inside her bag:

SITNB: What’s your favorite beauty product of all time?
Natalie: That’s tough. I’d have to say NARS Casino Bronzer. I’ve tried so many different bronzers but always find myself going back to this one. It’s the perfect shade for me!

SITNB: If you had to pick three key beauty items what would they be?
Natalie: Eyeliner (My favorite is Bobbi Brown Black Ink Gel Eyeliner. It has an amazing finish and never smudges), Concealer (right now, I’m using MAC Pro Long Wear Concealer. I love that it comes in a pump bottle – it’s the little things in life), Lipgloss (I’m a little bit of a junkie when it comes to lipgloss…my perfect “everyday” shade is Naked Plum by Bobbi Brown.

SITNB: Who is your beauty inspiration?
Natalie: Angelina Jolie and Blake Lively. I love their clean, fresh looks. Their makeup is always so effortless and I envy that.

SITNB: What was your biggest beauty no-no?
Natalie: Oh gosh. Well, in high school I was obsessed with being tan. I would pile on bronzer but never think to even it out and match my neck. There are so many pictures I have when my face is 5 shades darker than my body. I was rocking Jersey Shore before it was “Jersey Shore”.

SITNB: Guys want to know…how much do you really spend on makeup?
Natalie: Honestly, I don’t spend nearly as much as some people do. I really just replenish my favorites every couple months. Skincare is what breaks the bank!

SITNB: When did you first start wearing makeup?
Natalie: 6th grade – I remember taking my mom’s blue eyeliner, sneaking it in my backpack and putting it on when I got to school. I’m sure she knew I had her makeup! I grew up with 3 older sisters so I was always learning from them.

SITNB: What has been your biggest beauty splurge?
Natalie: Fragrance is always my biggest beauty splurge. Right now, I’m using Manifesto by YSL and love it.

SITNB: Do you have a product that changed your life?
Natalie: Clarisonic. If you don’t have one – buy one. It is amazing and my skin has never been the same. You can continue with your favorite cleanser and still use the Clarisonic. Highly recommend it!

Be sure to keep up with Natalie and her adventures through Chicago here.

Happy Saturday, everyone! Today on SITNB, I’m featuring one of my favorite fashion bloggers, Zahra Sandberg. Zahra is the blogger behind Love Zahra and she’s here today to give us a peak inside her makeup bag.

Black_White3Aside from blogging and styling segments with major fashion retailers like Woodfield Mall, Zahra can be found covering major fashion events and shows all throughout Chicago.

I hope you’re ready for a makeup bag filled with goodies. Below, Zahra even shares her favorite four lip combinations and the colors you need to achieve each look!

Inside her bag:

SITNB: What’s your favorite beauty product of all time?
Zahra: The MAC Prep + Prime Highlighter was a game changer for me. It transforms my face to look like I actually got a full eight hours sleep!

SITNB: If you had to pick three key beauty items what would they be?
Zahra: My Bobbi Brown Lip Balm , MAC Prep + Prime Highlighter, and my NYC brow powder.

SITNB: Who is your beauty inspiration?
Zahra: This might sound cliche but I’d say Angelina Jolie is my inspiration. Not only is she drop dead gorgeous on the outside, but she is a mother of six children which is incredible in itself, and at the same time she is a really great philanthropist. I think when people do good for others in the world, they just radiate a much greater beauty.

SITNB: What was your biggest beauty no-no?
Zahra: I’ve had so many – but I think one of the worst is when I did a black lipliner and Vaseline lip (cringe!). Black lips should really be reserved for Halloween. Can I add one more? I used to wear a lot of concealer and in pictures I looked like I had these white half moons under my eyes- not cute!

SITNB: Guys want to know: How much do you really spend on makeup?
Zahra: Oh man, I really have NO idea! Can I take a pass on this question?

SITNB: When did you first start wearing makeup?
Zahra: When I was little my mom would let me wear a little bit of Kohl on my eyes, and lipstick or gloss for special occasions – but I really got into makeup in Junior High School. At that time I felt like there weren’t a lot of makeup options for darker skin tones available, and the makeup artists at the department store counters seemed to think that loading up the darkest shades of shadow, blush, and lipstick was the only way to go – (this is before YouTube changed the world of makeup for women of color) – that’s when I decided to take matters in to my own hands and I became sort of obsessed with playing with makeup.

SITNB: What has been your biggest beauty splurge?
Zahra: My biggest splurge to date was probably my Invisalign braces I did a couple of years ago. It wasn’t something I absolutely needed to do, and I thought hard about doing it so late in life – I mean braces are supposed to be for kids, right? but I’m so happy with the results I am glad I went for it.

SITNB: Do you have a product that changed your life and/or beauty routine for the better?
Zahra: Brow powder. I seriously don’t know how I lived without it – I think filling in your eyebrows instantly makes you look healthier and younger – who doesn’t want that? Also, if I can sneak one more in – I recently discovered contouring, I know I am really late to the party on this one, but I found that highlighting and contouring makes such a big difference especially when I’m taking pictures or making a television appearance. I mentioned the products above but I use MAC blush in Blunt for contour and MAC Prep+Prime highlighter in Bright Forecast. I highlight the middle of my forehead, along my temples, down my nose, and contour only in the deepest hollow under my cheek bones. Then I blend, blend, and blend some more!

I hope you all enjoyed Zahra’s debut on SITNB! Don’t forget to check out her blog and daily adventures here.

Lipstick Files: Bobbi Brown Rich Lip Color

I’m happy to announce a new series coming to you from SITNB. Everyone knows how annoying it is to fall in love with a lip color swatch online or on someone’s hand, only to find out it looks COMPLETELY different on their lips. This new series, “Lipstick Files,” is here to help ease the process of finding your new favorite lip color.

My first lipstick formula holds a special place in my heart. Bobbi Brown’s Rich Lip Color in Guava was the first lipstick I ever officially started wearing. This lip color formula delivers intense pigment, hydration and is long-lasting. What more could you ask for? Nordstrom Michigan Avenue was kind enough to let me try on some of my favorite shades from the line for you. Old Hollywood_Cosmic Raspberry

Do you have a lipstick formula you would like me to test for you? I’d love to hear your favorites!

Laura Mercier – Rouge Nouveau Weightless Lipsticks

If you know me at all, you know that I’m constantly trying buying new lipsticks. I mean let’s be honest, some people need their Starbucks-fix, well mine is lipstick. Before this specific trip to Nordstrom, I had never tried any Laura Mercier lip products. Thankfully, I had heard great reviews about their new Rouge Nouveau Lip Colours that had just launched.

This 100% wax-free lipstick delivers great pigment, hydration, and long-lasting color. The lipstick is available in three different finishes: matte, sheer, and crème. Laura even put a simple, yet fun twist with this launch – each shade name begins with the same letter as their finish.

S: Sheer for natural stained lips with a matte finish and sheer coverage.
M: Matte for velvety lips with a matte finish and medium-to-full coverage.
C: Crème for creamy lips with a luminous finish and medium-to-full coverage.

Naturally, I tried a handful of each finish and loved that they were exactly how the sales girl described: hydrating on the lips with great color pay off.

Some of my favorites that may or may not have made it home with me that day were – Moi (matte coral red), Chic (crème berry pink), and Silk (sheer pink rose).

If you’re looking for a new lipstick color, stop by the Laura Mercier counter and try a few out. I apologize ahead of time if one or two happen to wander in your bag like they did mine.
